1. A naval officer or pilot who has special experience in navigating vessels in icy waterways.

2. A person responsible for maintaining the ice at a skating rink or similar location.

I was walking along the dock at Ushuaia, in the Beagle Channel, with the two Swedish ice masters from the ship I was on.

The ice rink, one of the best on the Continent, is kept in fine shape by Herr Baumann from Grindelwald, Switzerland’s foremost ice-master.
